The Invitation:

Good afternoon cherubs!!!

Now comes the time to introduce you to a little baby I’ve been working on for the past few weeks, and ask you if you’d be interested in contributing.

I’d like to start a blog. Here’s the blurb:

Everything you ever wanted to find in the one magazine, but couldn’t.

We talk politics, fashion and lifestyle. We do sexuality and religion and poverty. We take pictures and bake cupcakes. We see movies and go to cheap gigs and make friends with baristas and bartenders.

Constantly craving coffee and dosed up on Thai food and red wine, we’re a bunch of writers frustrated by what’s missing from the Australian media sphere, and thus here to deliver…

Get involved! Comment and critique. If you want to write for us, on any topic, send your pitch to jenniferblake@live.com.au

So the plan is a Frankie-esque style internet magazine that has no real editorial direction, but ALWAYS good writing and pictures. I know all of you to be good writers with good ideas, unfortunately, no one wants to pay you (or me!) for them as of yet. So now’s a good time to be writing for free.

You can contribute with anything, but the easiest and quickest posts I think will be simple, short reviews of gigs/exhibitions/plays/cds/movies/your grandmother’s roast recipe. Get the idea? I’d also obviously love some deeper political and social commentary, those things take a bit more time, so pitch as you feel ready/necessary. We’d welcome fashion commentary, responses to mainstream media (so if Miranda Divine really pisses you off, write a response!). If you’ve been overseas at all in the last few years, select 7 or 8 of your best pictures and write a quick par about your travels. Easy post! The idea is to get as much content as we can onto the web, and quickly! The more we update, the more people might actually be keen to read. Throw in website reviews, if you stumble across something cool.

Please let me know in the next couple of days if this is something you’d be interested in contributing to regularly, occasionally, or even reading! It’d be awesome if you could all get involved – I’ve asked you because you’re people I trust to produce good work and because you’re people who I think are cool enough to see the potential in an idea like this. I guess I spend a lot of time procrastinating on the internet reading blogs that wouldn’t interest me half as much as this one! Please reply with thoughts, ideas, critiques, encouragements!

Jen
